Main goals of the conference

The Annual Legislative Policy Forum is where we connect with key Congressional education leadership, discuss issues with senior staff at the U.S. Department of Education, and work with colleagues on state-specific education issues.

Objectives

  • Gain timely and accurate information about federal education policy, appropriations, and Executive branch priorities
  • Inform Congressional delegations and US Department of Education about relevant state policy and implications for federal policy
  • Advance state interests in reauthorization of several major federal education laws, including ESEA and IDEA
  • Build working relationships with Congressional offices and US Department of Education officials
  • Develop skills for reaching out to Congressional offices and Department of Education
  • Share and learn about best practices and successful case studies with other state board of education members and other education stakeholders

Target Audience

State board of education members and other key stakeholders interested in education policy at the federal and state levels.
